Communications Manager

Location:

Helsinki, FI

We are looking for an External Communications Manager to join our Corporate Communications team at Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa, Finland. This is a role that combines strategic ownership with hands-on execution, sitting at the heart of how Vaisala builds its reputation and visibility externally across media relations, PR, thought leadership, and social media. You will be part of a small, senior team where your work has real visibility, both inside Vaisala and beyond.

Vaisala is a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence helping industries, nations, people, and the planet to thrive. From predicting hurricanes to optimizing renewable energy production, our technology is used where it matters the most – from data centers, windfarms and laboratories to airports, the Arctic and even the surface of Mars. For a second year running, Vaisala got recognized in TIME Magazine's World's Best Companies in Sustainable Growth 2026 study. Our team of close to 2,500 experts and 62 nationalities around the world is committed to taking every measure for the planet. Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don't have to fit in to belong.

Why join us?
This role offers the opportunity to work in a truly global context. You will be part of a technology leader with a unique climate impact, helping societies, businesses and decision-makers act earlier, smarter and with confidence in the face of weather and environmental challenges. This role offers a chance to contribute where it truly matters.

You will take ownership of Vaisala's external communications agenda, working closely with senior leaders and experts to build reputation, drive visibility, and shape how Vaisala is perceived by media, investors, talent, and other key stakeholders. This is an excellent next step if you want strategic responsibility in external communications, long-term impact, and the opportunity to develop your expertise at a global company with a genuinely compelling story to tell.

No two weeks look the same in this role, as you move between longer-term projects, ongoing development work, and ad hoc situations. If you are energized by variety and comfortable switching between the strategic and the immediate, you will feel at home here.

What's your role?
In this position, you will lead and execute Vaisala's external communications, building the company's profile and reputation across media, thought leadership, and social channels. You will work closely with senior leaders and communications colleagues and stakeholders across Vaisala, acting as a trusted advisor on external messaging and media engagement.

You will report to the Head of Corporate Communications.

Your role will be to:

  • Set the direction for Vaisala's external communications, define priorities, and report on impact across media, social, and thought leadership

  • Lead corporate PR and media relations, including proactive pitching, media engagement, coordinating requests, and reactive handling

  • Advise and coach executives and spokespersons on external messaging, media engagement, and thought leadership positioning

  • Own Vaisala's company-level social media strategy and execution, ensuring the presence is purposeful, consistent, and strategically relevant

  • Monitor media and social coverage, translate findings into actionable recommendations, and support crisis communications and reputation-sensitive topics when needed

  • Lead and execute selected corporate-level communications projects

What will you bring?

  • Background in communications, journalism, or a related field, with several years of experience in corporate communications, PR, or media relations. A proven track record in media relations and building journalist relationships. Experience from a global or international organization is a plus.

  • Strong strategic thinking combined with a hands-on approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Experience advising or coaching senior leaders on communications and media engagement

  • Resilience and a positive, can-do attitude in a dynamic, high-visibility environment

  • Fluency in both Finnish and English is essential

  • You use AI tools as a natural part of how you work, and see the evolving role of AI in communications as an opportunity rather than a challenge
