Documentation Specialist

Industrial Measurements business area serves a wide range of industries and applications ranging from pharmaceutical to food industries, and from warehouses to power transformers. Position Description:
We are currently searching for a Documentation Specialist in our Surrey, BC office.  This person will support our software development teams.  To be successful in this role, you must have a curious mind and you are passionate about customer documentation. You think about the big picture of who, where, and how our products are used. When there is a need and opportunity to develop visual, video, or interactive customer documentation, you are not afraid to learn new skills or to guide the experts in doing what is needed to create these deliverables.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • You are responsible for the maintenance of the existing customer documentation and for creating new printed, online and embedded instructions for on-premise and cloud-based software we develop at Vaisala. The work will be done in close collaboration with the other documentation specialists, designers, project team members and product management. 
  • You will have a wide responsibility in planning, creating, and managing the customer documentation in the projects you participate in. In addition to the project work, you will also participate in the development of our daily work practices, style guides, processes, and tools.
  • Work consistently with a large amount of software and hardware documentation that is reused in several products
  • Maintain the identified deadlines.


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with technical communication and documentation
  • Excellent communication in English, both verbal and written
  • Experience with and knowledge of structured and modular customer documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail
  • Experience creating customer documentation for complicated systems
  • DITA XML skills are preferred, but not required
