Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don't have to fit in to belong.

We are looking for a Market & Competitive Intelligence Intern to join our Industrial Measurements team at Vaisala in Mexico city office location for this paid, full-time, internship opportunity.

Why join us?

  • The Market & Competitive Intelligence Intern supports the Sales Managers and Sales Director by delivering structured market, customer, and competitor insights for key Vaisala segments (e.g. data centers, pharma, semiconductor, food & beverage). The intern will lead a defined analysis project and translate findings into clear recommendations that support business growth and strategic decision-making.

What's your role?

You will be part of our LATAM team of top professionals. Together with the team, you will have an excellent opportunity to contribute for the marked development of Vaisala in the region. In this role you will be working in close co-operation with the regional sales and marketing managers. You will report to the LATAM Director.

1. Market research on investments and key segments

  • Map and quantify relevant markets in Mexico (and, where relevant, broader Latin America) for Vaisala’s focus segments: data centers, pharmaceutical industry, semiconductor, food & beverage, and other agreed verticals.
  • Analyze investment trends (greenfield projects, expansions, M&A, public/private investment programs) using external databases, industry reports, chambers, and government sources.
  • Build and maintain simple segment overviews (TAM/SAM where possible, key players, typical applications for Vaisala solutions).

2. Competitor landscape and positioning

  • Identify and profile key competitors across target segments (portfolio, positioning, strengths/weaknesses, channels, installed base indications).
  • Assess competitors’ relevance by segment (e.g. share of reference projects, local presence, partnerships, pricing posture).
  • Summarize insights in structured formats (slide decks or concise briefs) for Sales Managers and the Sales Director.

3. Pricing and value benchmarking

  • Collect openly available price points / price ranges for competing solutions, including from public tenders, distributor price lists, and online catalogs (where allowed).
  • Compare indicative pricing versus Vaisala’s value proposition (technology, quality, service, reliability) to highlight where we are premium, parity, or underpriced.
  • Support preparation of simple pricing and discounting guidelines or guardrails for specific segments, in collaboration with sales and product management.

4. Investment tracking in focus areas

  • Set up and maintain a simple tracker of ongoing and planned investments in target segments (e.g. new plants, expansions, major refurbishments, sustainability/ESG‑driven upgrades).
  • Classify opportunities by relevance and maturity (short-, mid-, and long‑term potential) and link them to possible Vaisala solutions.
  • Share regular updates (e.g. bi‑weekly or monthly) to the local sales team and relevant stakeholders.

5. Identifying undertapped potential for Vaisala

  • Combine market, competitor, and investment insights to identify under‑served segments, geographies, or applications where Vaisala has a strong fit but low current presence.
  • Propose priority “micro‑segments” (e.g. specific applications within pharma or data centers) with rationale, rough potential, and recommended next steps.
  • Prepare one or two deeper‑dive business cases or opportunity briefs to support strategic discussions and potential go‑to‑market actions.
  • Collaboration between WE2, XWeather and VIM

What will you bring?

  • Ongoing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in B2B industrial markets and technology‑driven businesses (measurement, instrumentation, automation, or similar).

Skills and competencies

  • Strong analytical and research skills: ability to search, structure, and interpret information from multiple sources and deal with incomplete data.
  • High proficiency in Excel/Sheets and PowerPoint/Slides; experience with basic data visualization or BI tools is an asset.
  • Ability to transform data and analysis into clear, concise insights and recommendations for business stakeholders.
  • Proactive, curious, and comfortable working independently while seeking guidance when needed.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to interact with sales, product management, and other functions.

Language skills

  • Good working proficiency in English (written and spoken), sufficient to read reports, prepare slides, and interact with international colleagues.

Other requirements

  • Eligible to work in Mexico for the duration of the internship.
  • Availability for a 4‑month full‑time internship, ideally aligned with summer period of June to September.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid model from our Mexico City, Polanco office, with remote work as agreed.
