Application Sales Engineer

Industrial Measurements business area serves a wide range of industries and applications ranging from pharmaceutical to food industries, and from warehouses to power transformers. It offers a broad range of accurate and reliable measurement instruments based on the cutting-edge technology to help our customers optimize their processes, improve efficiency, minimize energy consumption, and ensure the high quality of their end-products. 



Position Description:
As part of the Industrial Measurements Division’s (VIM) growth initiative for Latin America, we are currently looking to hire a Sales Application Engineer / Manager to support the Mexican market. The position will be based in Mexico City, Mexico.

This is a Frontline Sales position requiring the ability to discuss technical topics about the VIM – Industrial Instruments and Power with the diverse set of its applications related these products.  The focus of the position will be the promotion, specification and sales of our industrial instruments and power products, their related services directly to end users and indirectly through Integrators, OEM’s and eventually EPC’s, etc. This person will also be actively specifying and supporting the engineering firms. 


The position requires someone willing to travel, develop business at the end user level and handle high volume incoming leads from across the assigned region and to document the work in our Salesforce sales management software. It requires a high level of self-organization and attention to details.


The position is responsible for achieving sales targets in the assigned region as well as following up on sales leads to identify customer needs. It requires the ability to detect and develop customer’s needs, to answer technical sales questions, efficiently respond to customer inquiries, and create sales proposals and quotations. The position will require travel throughout the whole country.


The Sales Application Engineer will work as part of the LAM Sales team, building shared knowledge and expertise while also acting as a link between the Vaisala product managers / application engineers and the end customers for product/application training and updates.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Map the different target segments in Mexico and know about their potential using tools and techniques, such as direct visits to customers, information from websites, chambers of commerce and government institutions, networking, etc.
  • Understand the regulations of the sectors related to this business and be active in the group discussions & forums of the different committees and group of influencers. 
  • Detect and develop business opportunities across main related industries / accounts 
  • Sales of our Industrial Instruments portfolio and related services direct to end users, integrators and OEM’s
  • Ability to develop relationship and network at the different levels of the different potential industrial accounts and with metrologists.  
  • Work in close cooperation with our marketing, customer service group, and technical support experts, as well as peers across the region
  • Develop and execute growth plan in the assigned region
  • Develop and execute trade shows, teaming with marketing and partners, seminars and focused technical presentations/webinars 
  • Answering technical sales questions and recommend equipment for a diverse set of applications
  • Efficiently responding to customer inquiries
  • Create sales proposals and quotations
  • Track activities in Salesforce CRM and have it continuously updated 
  • Commit to continual improvement and technical training
  • Act as a link between the product managers, application experts and provide product training and product updates to customers, etc.



  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in technical sales in industrial instruments and power applications 
  • Demonstrated success in developing relationships and networking in the industrial instruments and power segments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Proactive and team attitude is a must
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time to support customers, trade shows, events and customer visits
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce and Oracle E-Business Suite would be advantageous
  • Leadership skills
  • Self-management skills
