Summer Trainee, Software Development

We are now looking for a Software Development Trainee to join our Products & Technologies organization at Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa.


You will be part of our software development team consisting of multiple software development and measurement technology professionals. Together with the team, you will have an excellent opportunity to learn and contribute to our new generation measurement device development. In this role you will be working in close co-operation with the Product Owner, who will also act as a mentor in this job. You will report to Software Development Manager in charge of the team.




  • You will get an opportunity to practice hands-on software development skills in an R&D project.
  • You will be participating in the development of a prototype tool which will be later used as the starting point of a customer offering.
  • You will gain valuable insight on high quality weather measurement devices as well as handling customer expectations while developing the prototype tool

As a summer trainee, you will be working in Products & Technologies to develop measurement data management and visualization tools for weather instruments. The main task is to develop a prototype for creating a visual representation of ceilometer measurements.


You will be:

  • Planning the visualization tool features and functionalities
  • Develop the prototype implementation of the tool
  • Understand the device and the measurements the tool aims to visualize


You will get mentoring and help from the team Product Owner and other team members.

  • Min. 2nd year university/university of applied science student with background in software
  • Programming experience with Python and other languages in creating PC applications
  • Previous experience with embedded devices or weather data is useful but not necessary
  • Language requirement: fluency in English
  • Curiosity, open minded and team player
