Software Engineering Trainee

We are looking for a Software Engineering Trainee to join one of our Industrial Measurements software development teams at Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa, Finland. In this role, you will work with modern software development and real-world engineering challenges. You will learn to utilize AI for porting software to new platforms, supported by experienced developers. This is a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience, directly contribute to Vaisala’s products, and develop your skills as part of an encouraging team.

What will your summer look like? 

During your summer at Vaisala, you will engage in practical tasks that involve evaluating the effort required to port Vaisala measurement probes’ software to new software platform for easier maintenance. You will explore and document how AI-assisted coding supports this process, gaining valuable experience in contemporary development methods. 

 

Your expected results range from producing a thorough analysis of the workload to potentially completing the software porting. Throughout your trainee period, you will build your skills in AI-assisted development, Real Time Operating Systems and gain insight into Vaisala’s products. You will join a team where tasks are largely independent, yet you’ll be supported by our top experts. 

 

This position offers a hybrid work model, emphasizing in-office collaboration to ensure fast support from colleagues whenever needed, but also providing opportunities for deep focus time while working remotely. 

 

What will you bring? 

  • 3 – 4 years of studies in relevant field like software engineering, computer science or similar 

  • Basic knowledge of real time operating systems preferably Zephyr OS and FreeRTOS 

  • Basic knowledge of C and C++ programming languages 

  • Basics of AI assisted software development with GitHub Copilot, Anthropic Claude Code or similar 

  • A self-directed, quick-to-learn, and proactive information-seeking attitude
