Software Engineer

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join AviMet Airport Weather at Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa, Finland. If you're passionate about developing products related to Airport Weather, this is an excellent opportunity to pursue your passion.

Vaisala is a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence helping industries, nations, people, and the planet to thrive. From predicting hurricanes to optimizing renewable energy production, our technology is used where it matters the most – from data centers, windfarms and laboratories to airports, the Arctic and even the surface of Mars. Our team of over 2,300 experts and 59 nationalities around the world is committed to taking every measure for the planet. Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don't have to fit in to belong.

Why join us?

  • You will be part of our community consisting of many hundred software developers. Benefit from the safety and success of a large organization while enjoying opportunities for learning and growth. Together with a focused cross-functional team, you will have a chance to take our aviation weather solution AviMet to the next level.

  • AviMet is scalable and highly configurable weather observing, monitoring, and reporting software and the foundation of Vaisala’s market-leading position in the global airport weather business. Pilots, air traffic controllers, forecasters, and observers need accurate weather information in real-time to ensure safe and efficient flight operations at airports. AviMet obtains data from sensors and remote sensing devices and provides information to all the stakeholders at an airport to support better decision-making and improved safety and efficiency.

  • Leading performance, not location. Our culture is trust-based. We treasure face-to-face collaboration with our colleagues, but hybrid work and flexibility are the new norm for us. You would be based off Vaisala office in Vantaa, working with a remote-first style team with flexible hybrid-work possibilities within Finland.

What's your role?

In this role, you'll spearhead the development of a cutting-edge airport weather solution, leveraging web technologies such as TypeScript, React, and Next.js, with a strong emphasis on technical excellence and ownership. As a key member of the product team, you'll actively contribute while continuously learning, collaborating with others, and driving initiatives forward with a proactive approach. While senior positions may focus on evangelizing and mastering technology, this role centers on specialization. Similarly, while senior positions may own and lead system evolution, your role will focus on enhancing and designing. Additionally, while senior positions may mentor and coordinate teams, your primary focus will be on providing support.

What will you bring?

  • Proficiency in software design and development utilizing TypeScript, React, and Next.js, backed by hands-on experience.

  • Actionable expertise in Docker, WSL2, and RabbitMQ, enhancing development capabilities.

  • Extensive background in all stages of software product lifecycle, including design, development, release, and maintenance.

  • Proficient in Linux environment and scripting languages.

  • Proven experience in building automation pipelines, including testing procedures.

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, coupled with a curious mindset.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English; Finnish is not mandatory.

Additional skills we find beneficial, but not a must to have, are modern databases (SQL, NoSQL), CI (GitLab), experience in developing high availability systems, Windows servers and Keycloak. C++ and Python skills are also an additional bonus.

For additional information please contact Development Manager Maaret Pyhäjärvi (maaret.pyhajarvi@vaisala.com). Please note that applications sent via email cannot be processed due to privacy reasons. The recruitment process consists of 3 meetings, including a discussion with the development team members. You will also get a chance to prove your technical skills by investing a few hours of your time. The process also includes a security clearance obtained for the persons with their consent.
