Giant Leap Trainee, Process Engineer

Are you ready to take a Giant Leap? We are looking for a Process or Automation Engineer Intern to join our Giant Leap program, a project-based internship at our headquarters in Vantaa. In this role, you will analyze the total throughput times of our top services and, based on your findings, propose improvements to standardize and streamline our delivery operations, as part of the Accurate Service Delivery Throughput Time project. As a Giant Leaper, you will get your own project to lead for three months, starting in June.

What will your summer look like?

During the summer, you will take a deep dive into our service delivery process by performing calibrations yourself, while shadowing experts and tracking the actual time spent on different services. Your work will include a mix of hands-on tasks, documentation, data analysis, and report building.

Throughout the project, you will be supported by our global capability development team, which consists of eight technical experts based in our headquarters as well as in Boston and Beijing. The project will be supervised by the Global Capability and Delivery Capability Manager. This opportunity offers the chance to work in a global team, gain in-depth knowledge of calibrations and service operations, and contribute your own expertise and insights.

Growing the service business is one of the key initiatives in Vaisala’s industrial measurements strategy. Accurately understanding the current state is a prerequisite for scaling and expanding the service business, and this project will directly contribute to that goal.

Work will primarily take place on-site at Vaisala’s headquarters. At the end of the project, we will deliver a comprehensive report detailing the standard throughput times for our top 15 services. Based on the measurements collected, the report will also include a summary of recommended process improvements aimed at reducing throughput times and enhancing overall efficiency.

What kind of skillset are we looking for?

We are looking for a person with a technical background, ideally with studies in process engineering or a similar field. You should be able to work effectively as part of a team while also showing initiative and working independently when needed.
