Giant Leap Trainee, Meteorology

Are you ready to take a Giant Leap? We’re looking for a Meteorology trainee for our Giant Leap program – a project-based internship in our HQ in Vantaa. During the project you will be assessing the Societal impact of Vaisala Meteorological Infrastructure and Capacity development solutions. As a Giant Leaper, you will get your own project to lead for three months, starting in June.

Vaisala is a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence helping industries, nations, people, and the planet to thrive. From predicting hurricanes to optimizing renewable energy production, our technology is used where it matters the most – from data centers, windfarms and laboratories to airports, the Arctic and even the surface of Mars. Our team of over 2,300 experts and 59 nationalities around the world is committed to taking every measure for the planet. Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don't have to fit in to belong.

Giant Leap is a unique opportunity for you to be the project manager of your own project, with the support of your teammates and project supervisor. Every year, these projects are carefully selected by our leadership teams, meaning that you get to work on real-life questions that are important for us as a company.

We invest in your growth with training sessions throughout the summer. Along with lessons from your own field and work life in general, you have a chance to learn, for instance, presentation skills, project management and problem solving. Connections built with fellow Giant Leapers, Vaisala’s brilliant experts and our leadership form an invaluable network for your career. Many of our former Giant Leapers have also gone on to build impressive careers at Vaisala after the program.

What will your summer look like?

During the summer, you will have the opportunity to study the aftermath of meteorological events in countries where Meteorological Infrastructure and Capacity Development solutions have been delivered over the years, such as the Bahamas and Vietnam. During this time, you will have the chance to delve into history and identify major meteorological events that occurred in these countries before and after the project's implementation. You will describe these events and explain how the delivered equipment helped mitigate their impact. Additionally, you will analyze past event statistics and predict the potential impact of having the solution in place. Conducting interviews with customers and internal stakeholders will be essential for qualitative analysis.

At Vaisala, our goal is to positively impact society and the environment by enabling data-driven climate action. We provide value through accurate and reliable measurements, data, and decision-making support for authorities and businesses. This helps societies become better-informed, more resource-efficient, and safer. This project will enhance Vaisala's expertise in developing viable solutions for large Capacity Development Projects.

From this project, we expect to obtain a fact-based assessment of the current project's status and suggest future improvements.

You will be part of the Flagship Business Unit team and will report to the Head of Business Portfolio. You will have the chance to work with technical solution managers, solution architects, as well as our project care and service organization. Alongside a diverse team of professionals, you will make a real impact on the world through cutting-edge science and technology.

During the summer, you can gain insights into international weather measurement and weather forecasting practices and understand the role and impact that comprehensive solutions bring to societies.

You will join the team at Vaisala headquarters in Vantaa, and we have a flexible remote working policy as well.
