Giant Leap Trainee, Marketing Intern
Helsinki, FI
Are you ready to take a Giant Leap? We’re looking for a Marketing Intern for our Giant Leap program – a project-based internship in our HQ in Vantaa. In this project: NextGen Strategies to Elevate Defense Market Engagement project, you will help research and shape a next-generation Defense Meteorology marketing strategy for Vaisala’s Flagship Business Unit, sharpening how we segment, target, and reach key defense audiences globally. As a Giant Leaper, you will get your own project to lead for three months, starting in June.
Vaisala is a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence helping industries, nations, people, and the planet to thrive. From predicting hurricanes to optimizing renewable energy production, our technology is used where it matters the most – from data centers, windfarms and laboratories to airports, the Arctic and even the surface of Mars. For a second year running, Vaisala got recognized in TIME Magazine's World's Best Companies in Sustainable Growth 2026 study. Our team of close to 2,500 experts and 62 nationalities around the world is committed to taking every measure for the planet. Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don't have to fit in to belong.
Giant Leap is a unique opportunity for you to be the project manager of your own project, with the support of your teammates and project supervisor. Every year, these projects are carefully selected by our leadership teams, meaning that you get to work on real-life questions that are important for us as a company.
We invest in your growth with training sessions throughout the summer. Along with lessons from your own field and work life in general, you have a chance to learn, for instance, presentation skills, project management and problem solving. Connections built with fellow Giant Leapers, Vaisala’s brilliant experts and our leadership form an invaluable network for your career. Many of our former Giant Leapers have also gone on to build impressive careers at Vaisala after the program.
What will your summer look like?
During the summer, you will lead a three‑month project to design a next‑generation Defense Meteorology marketing strategy for Vaisala’s Flagship Business Unit. In practice, your work will combine independent research and analysis with close collaboration across marketing, sales, product, and regional teams. You will conduct desk research on defense-market engagement, analyze existing customer and campaign data, refine key audience segments and their information needs, and benchmark different channel strategies and tactics for the defense context.
The main outcome of your work will be a practical, evidence‑based Defense Market Engagement Playbook and supporting presentation materials. These will help our marketing and sales teams better understand priority defense audiences, choose the right channels and messages, and plan more effective campaigns in a strategically important growth area for Vaisala.
You will be supervised by Tristan Williams, Head of Marketing of Weather, Energy and Environment, and supported by a knowledgeable, international team that values curiosity, collaboration, and open discussion. Over the summer, you will learn how to structure and execute market and desk research, work with both qualitative and quantitative data, and turn insights into clear recommendations and go‑to‑market tools for a complex B2B/B2G environment.
The internship is based at Vaisala’s HQ in Vantaa. We work in a hybrid way, so partial remote work is possible by agreement, but you should be able to spend a regular part of your week onsite for workshops, stakeholder meetings, and co‑creation sessions with the team.
What kind of skillset are we looking for?
We are looking for a university student in a relevant field such as business, marketing, international business, industrial engineering and management, political science, or security/defense studies, who can commit to a three‑month full‑time internship.
Additional skills include:
- You have strong analytical skills and enjoy structuring research questions, working with both qualitative and quantitative data, and turning loose information into clear insights.
- You are comfortable using common office tools and creating clear, visual presentations in English.
- Experience with marketing, analytics, or CRM tools and additional language skills are considered an advantage.
- You are curious, proactive, and able to work independently while also enjoying collaboration with different stakeholders.
- You feel at home in a complex environment, are willing to ask questions, and can communicate your ideas clearly.
- You are open to feedback, ready to iterate your thinking as new information emerges, and genuinely interested in learning more about defense and public‑sector markets.
