Giant Leap Trainee, Life Science Business Developer
Helsinki, FI
Are you ready to take a Giant Leap? We’re looking for a Life Science Business Developer for our Giant Leap program – a project-based internship in our HQ in Vantaa. The påroject: Global key account management for life science is an opportunity for you to familiarize yourself with Vaisala’s life science business and develop a key account management approach for addressing the largest pharmaceutical companies globally. As a Giant Leaper, you will get your own project to lead for three months, starting in June.
Vaisala is a global leader in measurement instruments and intelligence helping industries, nations, people, and the planet to thrive. From predicting hurricanes to optimizing renewable energy production, our technology is used where it matters the most – from data centers, windfarms and laboratories to airports, the Arctic and even the surface of Mars. For a second-year running, Vaisala got recognized in TIME Magazine's World's Best Companies in Sustainable Growth 2026 study. Our team of close to 2,500 experts and 62 nationalities around the world is committed to taking every measure for the planet. Driven by our shared purpose, curiosity, and pioneering spirit, we stay ahead and make a difference. At Vaisala, you don't have to fit in to belong.
Giant Leap is a unique opportunity for you to be the project manager of your own project, with the support of your teammates and project supervisor. Every year, these projects are carefully selected by our leadership teams, meaning that you get to work on real-life questions that are important for us as a company.
We invest in your growth with training sessions throughout the summer. Along with lessons from your own field and work life in general, you have a chance to learn, for instance, presentation skills, project management and problem solving. Connections built with fellow Giant Leapers, Vaisala’s brilliant experts and our leadership form an invaluable network for your career. Many of our former Giant Leapers have also gone on to build impressive careers at Vaisala after the program.
What will your summer look like?
Your summer will be focused on a strategic project within Vaisala’s growing industrial measurement business, specifically in the life science segment, which is our largest customer group. The goal is to develop a global view of business potential with large pharmaceutical accounts and create actionable strategies to strengthen Vaisala’s position.
You will:
- Analyze Vaisala’s current customer base and compare it with global large pharma sites.
- Propose an approach for strategic key account planning across regions.
- Identify new sales channels, business partners, and offering expansions to improve customer value and competitiveness.
To achieve these objectives, your day-to-day work will include:
- Developing tools to automate internal data analysis and market research.
- Consolidating data and presenting preliminary findings to business lines and regional teams.
- Joining Teams calls with key sales managers and account directors to refine business opportunities.
- Creating tools to consolidate and maintain strategic account plans.
- Piloting the approach with selected accounts and supporting rollout across regions if successful.
What will be the outcome of the project?
- A concrete way of working between business lines and regions on global key accounts.
- A prioritized list of business opportunities with clear growth targets.
- Recommendations for channel development and offering expansion to capture more value and enter new application areas.
You will work closely with the global Business Line Head for Continuous Monitoring Systems and key Product Managers, as well as maintain key contacts with subregional heads in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In the early part of the project, it will be beneficial to come into the office, but once you get started, you can also carry out your analysis and interviews remotely.
What kind of skillset are we looking for?
- We are looking for a student with an industrial management major and a bioscience minor (or vice versa), or someone with a background in marketing, strategy, business analysis, or general business management.
- You are curious, analytical, and proactive, and you enjoy taking ownership and driving work from ambiguity to concrete outcomes.
