Giant Leap Trainee, Industrial Engineering

Are you ready to take a Giant Leap? We’re looking for an Industrial Engineering Intern for our Giant Leap program – a project-based internship in our HQ in Vantaa. During the project: Commercial Market Insights & AI you will be building an AI-based market insights tool for our technical solutions team. As a Giant Leaper, you will get your own project to lead for three months, starting in June.

Giant Leap is a unique opportunity for you to be the project manager of your own project, with the support of your teammates and project supervisor. What will your summer look like?

In this role, you will help build a new Market Insights AI agent that turns scattered information into clear, actionable guidance for Vaisala’s sales and product teams. You will gather and structure data from multiple internal and external sources, and help design how insights are presented so that they are genuinely useful in day-to-day work. In practice, this can mean defining and testing prompts, refining how information is categorized, and helping to turn raw market signals into concrete recommendations and specification guidance that support sales and product discussions.

During the summer, you will gain hands-on experience in using AI tools for business insights, structuring and productizing market knowledge, and understanding how a technology company turns market information into concrete actions. You will also deepen your understanding of the weather and environment market, solution positioning, and how strategic initiatives support long-term business success.

The core of the project is to create a sustainable, easy-to-use market insights “hub” that lives beyond the internship. Instead of one-off analyses, you will help set up processes and structures so that market information stays up to date, is easy to maintain, and can be reused across cases and teams. Your work will directly support Vaisala’s growth and profitability by helping our front-line teams better understand the market landscape, position our solutions, and focus their time where it matters most.

You will work closely with sales, technical solution managers, product management, and other stakeholders. You will be part of the technical solution management team and will report to Laura Alku, Head of Business Portfolio. The team is collaborative and curious, and you will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions, test ideas, and learn how different functions use market insights in practice. We value proactive, open communication and a practical mindset over having all the answers from day one.

The position is based at Vaisala’s headquarters in Vantaa, with a flexible hybrid setup that allows some remote work. You will be part of our international, supportive working environment where you can develop your skills, contribute to a real strategic initiative, and see the impact of your work in how teams use market insights to win and serve customers.

What kind of skillset are we looking for?

Studies in business, industrial engineering and management, information and service management, data/analytics or similar. Ideally at final stage.

Basic experience with generative AI tools (Copilot, Sana, ChatGPT or similar)

Comfortable working with both qualitative and quantitative information

Additional skills include:

Experience with prompt engineering, data structuring or knowledge management

Business-minded and analytical, focused on impact for sales and product teams

Proficiency in data analytics

Strong communication and presentation skills

Self-motivated
