Giant Leap Trainee, Data Science / Machine Learning

Are you ready to take a Giant Leap? We’re looking for a machine learning/data scientist trainee for our Giant Leap program – a project-based internship in our HQ in Vantaa. In this project, Innovative data-driven solutions, you will work with advanced tools in predictive analytics and machine learning to take our data-driven business practices to the next level.  As a Giant Leaper, you will get your own project to lead for three months, starting in June.

Giant Leap is a unique opportunity for you to be the project manager of your own project, with the support of your teammates and project supervisor. What will your summer look like?

You will spend your summer deep-diving into innovative data solutions leveraging, for example, SAP Datasphere or SAP analytics cloud, to develop data-driven decision-making within Vaisala.

• Scope & deliverables: Develop a proposal addressing business challenges from internal stakeholder interviews, build a data-driven solution prototype showcasing the platform's machine learning, predictive analytics, and/or automation features with data visualization, and create a roadmap for scaling the prototype into a full solution.
• Expected Outcomes: Identify innovative data-driven solutions to address business challenges and enhance understanding of advanced analytics and machine learning applications within the selected platform.
• You will be working in the Applied Digital Innovation and Data & analytics teams in our Digital Excellence organization where our mission is to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
• This project provides hands-on experience with cutting-edge data technologies, aligning with the organization's strategic goals for innovation.
• Location: Vantaa office

What kind of skillset are we looking for?

A combination of the following skills would be beneficial for the project:

• Able to analyze and interpret complex data sets to extract meaningful insights.
• Familiar with platforms such as SAP analytics cloud, SAP Datasphere or Power BI
• Skills in data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to integrate data from various sources.
• Proficient in analytical tools and techniques, such as SQL, Python, or R
• Basic knowledge of machine learning concepts and the able to apply predictive analytics to generate insights
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
