Giant Leap Trainee, Machine Learning

Are you ready to take a Giant Leap? We’re looking for an Applied Machine Learning Trainee for our Giant Leap program – a project-based internship in our Espoo office. This internship offers hands-on experience in applying deep learning to enhance precipitation prediction accuracy, with direct impact on real-world forecasting applications. As a Giant Leaper, you will get your own project to lead for three months, starting in June.

What will your summer look like?

• You will work directly on Vaisala’s AI-based weather forecasting models, focusing on improving the reliability of precipitation predictions. This project addresses critical research questions which directly impact Vaisala’s data offerings and supports the development of more dependable AI-driven solutions for weather prediction.
• You will be working in the Forecasting Team within Vaisala Xweather (https://www.xweather.com). The team is a mix of software developers and scientists with diverse backgrounds.
• Our office is located near the Keilaniemi metro stop in Espoo with nice views of the sea.

What kind of skillset are we looking for?

• Candidates should be Master's or PhD students in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field, with coursework or experience in deep learning.
• Preferred skills include experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch or TensorFlow). Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to review and apply research papers are also highly valued.
• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills
