Sales Manager (MET)

The business area serves selected weather-dependent customers to whom accurate, real-time, uninterrupted, and reliable weather data is essential to run efficient operations.

Position Description: 
We are currently searching for a highly motivated Sales Manager to support our Meteorology sales team in North America. This position will sell Vaisala products and services into our predominantly B2G meteorological space by proactively seeking new business potential, developing and maintaining existing customer relations, and negotiating and closing deals. 

 

As the day-to-day impacts of climate change and extreme weather events continue to grow, Vaisala is innovating and equipping meteorology professionals to better understand, forecast, and explain the phenomena.  In the coming decades, meteorologists will play an increasingly important role in helping governments and industry to make informed decisions across a broad range of societal and business sectors.  When it comes to ensuring community safety, you want the most accurate and reliable weather predictions. Vaisala provides the technology and the know-how to make these predictions a reality.
  
Your key responsibilities include: 
•Managing your customer accounts under the direction of the National Sales Manager and in collaboration with sales team members.
•Planning and implementing regional sales in line with Vaisala strategy.
•Promoting Vaisala’s offering by visiting existing and potential new customers, participating in exhibitions and fairs, and organizing customer seminars in order to generate sales.
•Seeking new customers and leads, converting them into sales opportunities, and then successfully closing deals.
•Preparing quotations and tenders in accordance with Vaisala sales processes.
•Ensuring profitable sales by achieving agreed gross margin expectations, and minimizing receivables turnover.
•Participating in budget and execution planning, forecasting sales performance, and developing / maintaining a growing sales funnel.
•Be the subject matter expert on customer needs, challenges, and market conditions.
•Communicating customer requirements and feedback to the relevant internal business functions. 
  
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s Degree in business or relevant technical subject; previous technical sales experience (5-8 years), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Well-versed in Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), current ERP, CRM (Salesforce preferred).
•Excellent communication and proven negotiation skills.
•Fluency in English is required.
•Self-motivated, flexible and well-organized, and a team player with a positive attitude towards customer service.
•A passion to win and the persistence to close deals.
•Excellent time management and multi-tasking abilities.
•Willingness and ability to grow competences by learning relevant industry standards, as well as market specific issues (culture, customers, competitors). 
•B2G and/or B2B sales experience preferred, including familiarity with Government sector procurement vehicles (FAR, GSA, IDIQ,).
•Experience and background in Meteorology preferred.
•Experience prospecting new business potential.

ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $75,000-$85,000 base annually. (Salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data). In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for our Sales Bonus plan. We also offer our employees a competitive benefits package, which is outlined below.
