North America Sales Manager, Renewable Energy

Position Description:

This role is responsible for growing and generating revenue by maximizing regional sales to reach targets for Vaisala's North America Energy business. This is a leadership role that will lead and coach a high performing team. Overall responsibility of managing and developing the sales performance, sales channels and customer relations in the region.


This position includes key accounts responsibility to proactively seek new business potential, develop and maintain existing customer relations and negotiating and closing deals. This role requires a demonstrated systematic process approach to sales and management skills to effectively balance sales resources.  Your portfolio will include Lidar, the best performing remote sensor, where Vaisala provides WindCube suite, the most trusted solution around the world - and Digital offering where Vaisala employs robust modeling techniques and super-computing capabilities to achieve the superior quality of the data captured in our Renewable Energy solution tools.


Your Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Define and implement sales strategy for the region in accordance with company and business area targets
  • Explore sales opportunities, identify, and research actions to achieve to sales in cooperation with your sales team(s)
  • Responsible for the development of sales channel by selecting the most suitable distributors/agents and managing of relations with selected partners
  • Ensure profitable sales by achieving the set profitability / profit levels and minimizing receivables turnover
  • Dissemination of customer knowledge, needs and requirements to segments and other relevant internal interest groups
  • Set sales targets for your sales team members in cooperation with the business unit
  • Provide constructive feedback to your sales team members in order to help them to maintain good sales performance / improve their sales performance.
  • Forecasting and reporting your sales team(s) performance as required by the sales management using the common tools and sales processes.



  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or technical field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in technical sales (5-10 years) and strong knowledge of trade practices, contractual issues, financing instruments, etc.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • People leadership experience (3-5 years)
  • Work experience in similar role
  • Demonstrated competence in technical outside sales and leadership.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, Power-Point, Outlook) and current ERP, CRM
  • Proactive communicator and skilled negotiator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is a must. Knowledge of other languages would be a strong benefit (relevant to assigned territory).
  • Strong commitment to support others to reach their goals and support growth and development.
  • Self-motivated, determined, and well-organized team player with a positive attitude towards customer service.
  • Ability to motivate others.
  • You have passion to win and persistence to complete complex cases.
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking abilities.

ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $120,000-135,000 per year. (Salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location, and alignment with market data). In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for our Sales Bonus plan. We also offer our employees a competitive benefits package, which is outlined below.
